The population of Burkina Faso is about 19 million.
French is the official language, but 90% of the population speak an indigenous language of the Sudanic category.
The country is the third poorest country in the world. A large part of the population lives far below the poverty line. The average age is only 17 years and this is caused by the prevalence of AIDS and infant mortality.
